In a bid to put an end to long-term ill-feeling from car manufacturers towards
the motorsport’s governing body, the FIA has set up a new commission body
specifically to communicate the manufacturers’ views.
The rift between the FIA and the manufacturers recently threatened to see
Formula One split into two rival series and has undoubtedly prompted the move by
the governing body to pacify their concerns.
In a statement, the FIA said: ‘The World Motor Sport Council has voted to
establish a new motor sport commission, the Formula One Manufacturers’ Advisory
Commission. Senior employees or officers from BMW, DaimlerChrysler, Ferrari,
Honda, Renault and Toyota will be eligible for membership of the commission and
Professor Burkhard Goeschel has been invited to become its chairman.
‘The FIA will be represented, as required, by FIA president Max Mosley, FIA
technical delegate Charlie Whiting, and FIA technical consultants Tony Purnell
and Peter Wright.’
