Relationships between football governing bodies FIFA and UEFA have reached a new
level of co-operation as the two parties agreed to create a joint committee to
co-ordinate the global football calendar.

The new committee, composed of representatives of all of football’s
stakeholders (confederations, associations, leagues, clubs and players’
representatives), will meet regularly in order to harmonise the coordinated
international match calendar at world level up to 2014.

The first item on the committee’s agenda will be the collision in the fixture
list this December where UEFA Champions League matches and the FIFA Club World
Cup are scheduled to take place at the same time.

Michel Platini’s victory in the UEFA presidential vote earlier this month has
ushered in a new era of co-operation with FIFA president Sepp Blatter a vocal
supporter of Platini’s electoral manifesto.

As part of this new found spirit of co-operation, UEFA’s representation on
FIFA committees will also be examined.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter confirmed that he would propose to the FIFA
Congress in Zurich in late May that the Task Force ‘For the Good of the Game’ be
turned into a standing committee in order to allow the task force to work even
more efficiently on issues relating to competitions, financial matters and
general political as well as sports-political matters.
