FIFA has continued to clamp down on ambush marketing at the World Cup in South Africa after 36 women were ejected from Soccer City during the Netherlands match as they were promoting a Dutch beer.
The women were wearing orange dresses, known as the Dutchy dress which is a part of a gift pack bought with Bavaria beer in Holland as part of the build-up to the World Cup.
FIFA also continued to confiscate several flags bearing non-World Cup brand names from fans.
More than 60% of FIFA’s 2007-2010 revenue of $3.2 billion has come from TV rights and about 30% from commercial marketing.
In a bid to protect official South Africa 2010 World Cup sponsors – which include Adidas, Coca-Cola, Hyundai, McDonald’s, Emirates and Budweiser – FIFA removed flags emblazoned with company logos that are not official partners.
