Tickets have gone on sale today for the first football game to be played at the
new Wembley Stadium – an under-21 international between England and Italy on 24
March.
The game, which will kick off at 12.30pm, will form one of two test events to
be staged at the new £757m arena before it can obtain a safety certificate from
the local council.
Tickets for the match will cost £10 with the crowd limited to 60,000 despite
the ground have a 90,000 capacity.
Prior to the under-21 game, Wembley will stage its first test event, also
with a 60,000 capacity, on 17 March. The event will be a Community Day primarily
for local Brent residents to visit and view the facility.
Assuming both events pass without mishap, Wembley will be ready to stage the
FA Cup final with a full crowd capacity on 19 May.
Construction firm Multiplex handed over the keys to the stadium to the
Football Association on Friday, signalling an end to building work.
