Floods Force New Road Closure

Worcestershire Cricket Club’s New Road ground has again been hit by flooding and will not be used again this season.

The county are now expected to move their final home games, both against Middlesex in the Pro40 League and County Championship, to Kidderminster.

A deal was signed with the club ground to use their facilities if there was a recurrence of the 2007 flooding.

Worcestershire’s problems have been further compounded in that the final games of the season will be star batsman Graeme Hick’s last matches for the club, and so they were expecting well-above-average crowds.

Last year, in spite of an insurance pay-out of £300,000 and an ECB grant of £75,000, the club made a pre-tax loss of £693,211 as it was estimated that the clear-up and other costs totalled close to £1m.
