Six clubs from the Premier League and four from the English Football League have taken up a special offer to attend a session of the World Para Athletics Championships 2017.

The clubs’ foundations and community projects will have the opportunity to attend the championships taking place between 14th – 23rd July at the London Stadium.

Foundations of Tottenham Hotspur, Southampton, Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Middlesborough and Fulham as well as Trusts of Watford, Leicester City, Charlton and Queens Park Rangers all signed up for the offer. In addition, the Foundations at Manchester United, Everton and West Ham United have officially backed the drive to support the para athletes.

The World Para Athletics Championships London 2017 kick off the summer of world athletics, with the IAAF World Championships following at the London Stadium from 4th – 13th August.

As well as some of the nation’s best clubs, Premier League stars past and present are getting behind the World Para Athletics Championships with former England international Jermaine Jenas joining Watford FC captain Troy Deeney in vocalising his support.

Jermaine Jenas, former England international, said: “It is great to hear that football clubs are backing the World Para Athletics Championships. I know through experience that various clubs do great work in the community and I’m delighted to hear at least two of my former clubs, Spurs and QPR, will be bringing groups down. I’d encourage more clubs to do so if they can.”

Troy Deeney, captain of Watford FC, said: “I am a great supporter of the work Watford do in the community and I know through the Watford Community Sports and Education Trust and my own Troy Deeney Foundation, how much opportunities like these can make a difference. Watford is a great club and it is fantastic that they can work with the organisers of the World Para Athletics Championships to offer communities the chance to watch a once-in-a-lifetime session of inspiring sport.”

John Shiels, chief executive at the Manchester United Foundation, said: “The World Para Athletics Championships is a great event to be a part of. I hope that everyone is inspired by the incredible performances of the athletes and that everyone who attends has a great experience.”
