The Football League has appointed the former chief executive of Cable and Wireless Communications, Greg Clarke, as its new chairman.
Clarke will replace Lord Mawhinney who is set to step down after just over seven years in charge.
Clarke has had previous experience in football, having helped Leicester City through administration in 2002 as the club’s chairman.
The 52-year-old was approved at the League’s board meeting last week after he quit as chief executive of O3b, the Google-backed satellite broadband company in February.
