The Football League has announced the appointment of former Leeds United CEO Shaun Harvey as its new chief executive, who will take up the new role from October.

The appointment follows a selection process chaired by its independent director Richard Bowker.

Harvey was CEO of the Championship club for nine years before standing down earlier this month and was previously a member of the Football League board of directors, having been elected to the role by clubs in June 2011.

Football League chairman Greg Clarke said of the appointment: ‘Shaun is widely respected across the game for his deep understanding of the football industry. During my time as chairman, he has made an important contribution to the League board.’

The 43-year-old will begin his new position from 1st October, following Clarke’s move from an executive to non-executive role.
