Ford is using this week’s UEFA Champions League final as the platform for the
launch of a new advertising campaign for its Mondeo range – one of the most
expensive adverts in the car brand’s history.
It is hoped that the ‘Desire’ ad, created by Ford’s advertising agency
Ogilvy, will have a similar effect as the half-time ads shown at the SuperBowl
in the US where brands use the huge TV audience that the event creates to make a
major statement.
The 90-second ad is estimated to have cost £8,000 a second to broadcast and
will be shown simultaneously across 21 European countries, reaching a potential
audience of 80m viewers.
The ad was filmed in 30 locations across London and sees cars floating
upwards driven by helium balloons.
The UEFA Champions League final between Liverpool and AC Milan takes place on
Wednesday 23rd May in Athens.
Ford is an official sponsor of the UEFA Champions League.
