Ford is using tonight’s UEFA Champions League final, of which it is a top-tier sponsor, to launch a TV advertising campaign to promote its new Kuga model.
Estimated to attract around 15m viewers, the UEFA Champions League final between Chelsea and Manchester United will act as the launch pad for the new commercial which will be shown at 20.32pm on ITV and Sky Sports following the half-time whistle.
Called ‘Blank Canvas’, the Ford Kuga commercial is the latest in a series of campaigns produced by Ford’s ad agency, Ogilvy, around the theme of design and why things look the way they do.
Appropriately, given Kuga’s unique look, the campaign was based around the question ‘Who said we have to accept the ordinary?’ with the ad suggesting what might happen if all design ideas could start with a black piece of canvas.
Featuring a soundtrack from up-and-coming French singer Camille’s latest album, the ad was directed by award-winning Danish director Nicolai Fuglsig.
The new Ford Kuga is the brand’s new crossover vehicle featuring on-and-off-road ability and goes on sale from June 2008.
