Formula 1 has signed a multi-year partnership with temporary power solutions provider Aggreko, covering all European Grand Prix races from the 2025 season.

The agreement, which includes ‘official provider’ designation, will see the Glasgow-based company deliver low-carbon energy generation systems for the championship, as it targets Net Zero status by 2030.

F1 and Aggreko have been collaborating on the system since 2023, and piloted a centralised power generation compound at the Austrian Grand Prix that year. This saw the event lower its associated carbon emissions by more than 90% compared to the 2022 race.

The compound is powered by renewable energy sources, including biofuel, solar panels, vegetable oil and battery storage systems.

Earlier this year, the system was once again trialled at the Hungarian Grand Prix in July, and will be rolled out for this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix at Monza.

From next season, the new centralised system will supply all stakeholders at Grand Prix in Europe, including Formula 1, the FIA, and F1 teams.

In addition, the system will power the pit wall, timing room, the Event Technical Centre (ETC), where broadcast operations are based, and at the International TV Compound, where F1 host broadcasters from during races.

The introduction of Aggreko and F1’s system is intended to significantly reduce the quantity of individual generators on Paddock during races.

“The entire paddock is part of our Net Zero by 2030 commitment and solutions like the low-carbon energy generation system combine technological innovation with coordinated action,” said Ellen Jones, Head of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) at Formula 1.

“In practice, this means that we can achieve significant carbon reductions in this space – and we look forward to continuing to showcase how we can deliver more sustainable events.”

Robert Wells, President Aggreko Europe and Aggreko Event Services, added, “Aggreko has an unrivalled track record of delivering power transition solutions across the globe, in the most demanding, challenging and mission critical environments to ensure the needs of our clients are met consistently to the highest standards.

“As a global leader, we have an important role to play in the energy transition and we’re thrilled that Formula 1 has chosen Aggreko to help them on their journey to be Carbon Net Zero by 2030.”
