Formula E has partnered with 11 influencers, including Sergio Agüero and Brooklyn Beckham, to compete in an electric race.

As part of the newly launched ‘Evo Sessions’, each influencer will be paired with a Formula E team and driver and will undergo six weeks of training ahead of the race, which will take place in Miami on 5th and 6th March.

The all-electric single-seater racing league is aiming to engage younger audiences by leveraging high-profile social media figures.

Manchester City legend Agüero, has 30 million Instagram followers, while Brooklyn Beckham, son of football icon David Beckham, has 16 million.

The participants will document their training, including simulator sessions and physical conditioning, across their social media platforms.

Formula E has faced challenges in building its audience in the UK, with multiple broadcast partners and the impact of COVID-19 affecting its visibility.

Despite posting an annual loss of $45m (£36m) last year, the series has reported financial improvements and remains focused on long-term growth.

“Formula E is the fastest growing motorsport in the world, and we have a clear target to hit half a billion fans by 2030,” said Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E.

“I’ve been lucky enough to get behind the wheel of a Formula E racing car, but this event will be truly eye opening on what it takes to be an elite racing driver.

“It will uncover the world-class ability of the drivers and teams alike and highlight the raw skill and ingenuity we have in the championship.”
