As of the bidding deadline, four candidate bids representing five nations have expressed interest in hosting the UEFA European Football Championship in 2016.
France, Italy, and Turkey have informed UEFA they wish to submit a single bid, while a joint bid will be presented by Norway and Sweden.
UEFA will now review the eligibility of the interested candidates, and will look at the various technical requirements relating to the potential infrastructure needed for UEFA Euro 2016, as well as any previous experience of the relevant member associations, cities and venues in organising multi-venue sports events, before confirming the official list of bidders.
Starting around 3rd April 2009, the distribution of the bid requirements will aid the candidates to develop their campaigns, which they will have to present to UEFA by 15th February 2010.
There will be an evaluation phase, during which UEFA will conduct a series of official visits to the various bidders as from March 2010. The UEFA administration, and experts appointed by UEFA, will then examine the bid dossiers and prepare written evaluation reports for submission to the UEFA National Team Competitions Committee.
The final decision will be taken by the UEFA Executive Committee on or about 27th May 2010.
The European Championship in 2012 is being jointly hosted by Poland and Ukraine.
