FOX Sports Eredivisie, a television service offering coverage of the Dutch football league, has teamed up with VR sportstech company Beyond Sports.
In collaboration with the Dutch company, the broadcaster will be the first in the world to launch a free virtual reality app showing highlights of football matches, through the eyes of the players.
In addition to the virtual reality technology that Beyond Sports already offers multiple football clubs like Arsenal and Stoke City, the sportstech firm will start focusing on fans at home as well.
In collaboration with FOX Sports Eredivisie and powered by KPN (a Dutch telecom provider), the company has developed a free-to-use app containing the best goals of the past weekend. All available in virtual reality. All through the eyes of the players.
Users select the player through whose eyes they would want to see the highlight and experience the particular moment in the way the player experienced it himself.
Besides the best goals, the app will contain an extract of the postgame talk show ‘De Eretribune’, where the present analysts will analyse key match situations in virtual reality. Fans at home will not only have the chance to watch the goals, they will also be able to see the match fragments that were shown in the talk show.
At first only Dutch consumers who own a Samsung Gear VR will be able to download the app and watch the highlights. However, Beyond Sports is working on developing a version that will support Google cardboards which will make sure that any high-end phone will be able to use this application.
All necessary data will be delivered by data provider ChyronHego.
