Frankie Dettori MBE has been confirmed as an official ambassador for Newmarket Racecourses in 2015.

Dettori, one of the world’s top jockeys for over a quarter of a century, has lived in Newmarket for more than 30 years.

The three-time champion flat jockey said: “It’s fantastic to take on the role of ambassador. I love Newmarket Racecourses. The town is my home and I have wonderful memories of many victories, not least my five winners in the QIPCO 1000 and 2000 Guineas.

“The Rowley Mile is a brilliant racecourse, a true test of a young thoroughbred with fantastic and historic racing throughout the spring and the autumn. The Adnams July Course is a beautiful track, hosting the fantastic Moet & Chandon July Festival and all those great music nights throughout the summer too. I can’t wait to get started.”

Amy Starkey, regional director of Jockey Club Racecourses East Region, added: “Frankie Dettori is famous all over the world and we are thrilled that he has agreed to be ambassador for our 2015 racing season. Frankie is loved by the racing public and it’s fantastic that he will be officially associated with the Home of Horseracing. We are really looking forward to working with him.”

Dettori began his career in Newmarket with Luca Cumani, who still trains in the town, and became the first apprentice jockey since Lester Piggott to ride 100 winners in a season.

On one day in 1996 at Ascot Racecourse he won every single race – a feat remembered as ‘The Magnificent Seven’.
