Freesat Considers Offering Sky Sports

Freesat, set up by the BBC and ITV to assist digital switchover, is reportedly looking to offer its customers a pay TV deal that would include Sky Sports 1 and 2.

Its board is reportedly looking at the option of taking advantage of the reduction in Sky’s wholesale prices forced through earlier this year by Ofcom.

BT Vision has moved to offer customers the service in time for the new Premier League season at a discounted price.

The decision to move into pay TV could prove to be popular among customers as the channels would be unbundled – meaning that a consumer could choose to pay for the channels they wanted.

Freesat is projected to reach two million customers by the end of the digital switchover in 2012.
