Garmin has unveiled its first underwater heart monitors, the HRM-Tri and the HRM-Swim.

The monitors are aimed at triathletes and swimmers, and can store up to 20 hours of heart rate data.

Although any type of athlete can use these devices, each monitor has distinct advantages to specific types of athletic swimmers.

According to Garmin, the HRM-Tri’s features are best suited for triathletes. With a small heart rate monitor and adjustable straps, the HRM-Tri provides comfort and consistent heart data during swimming.

Some features that HRM-Tri offers are its advanced running dynamics, vertical oscillation, cadence, and ground contact time.

Meanwhile, the HRM-Swim is for use primarily in the pool.

The HRM-Swim and HRM-Tri both can be synched to Garmin’s smart applications where users can further analyze their results, while also interacting and sharing his or hers results with other fellow athletes.

Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of worldwide sales added: “Last fall we introduced our Forerunner 920XT multisport watch, our most advanced all-in-one solution for triathlon training. The HRM-Tri and HRM-Swim add another level for triathletes and swimmers, offering them the most comprehensive data to help them train for and achieve their goals.”

The batteries of both devices are also replaceable. The HRM-Swim’s battery will last for approximately 18 months, while HRM-Tri’s battery will last around 10 months.

HRM-Tri and HRM-Swim will begin shipping in Q3 and will be available individually for a suggested retail price of £99.99 and £79.99, respectively.
