Glasgow 2014 has announced Gatorade as the Official Sports Drink for the Commonwealth Games, providing drinks stations for the 4,500 athletes expected to compete throughout the competition.
The company becomes the 46th official sponsor of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, which start on 23rd July.
David Grevemberg, Glasgow 2014 chief executive, who spoke at Beyond The Games on Monday, said: ‘We are pleased to welcome Gatorade to our Sponsor Family on the eve of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, the largest sporting and cultural event in Scotland’s history.’
‘As an Organising Committee we pride ourselves on being athlete-centred and we are confident that the range of drink choices, which now includes Gatorade, will meet their needs.’
Alex Armstrong, marketing manager, Gatorade UK, added: ‘These are exciting times for Gatorade with the arrival of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. We are delighted to create a relationship with Glasgow 2014 and excited to be working with them. We feel it further cements our position as the sports drink of choice for any elite athlete.’
Gatorade was developed in the United States during the 1960s and came to the UK in 2008 with more than 40 years of sports fuel experience behind it.
