Glasgow 2014 is set to officially launch its volunteer programme for the Commonwealth Games, by accepting expressions of interest from next week. Around 15,000 people will be required to help put on the event, with interest expected to be high following the success of the 70,000 London 2012 Games Makers.
Registration will open on Monday, 5th November, before potential volunteers can officially apply for one of the available roles in mid-January.
London 2012 received more than 240,000 applications and interviewed 100,000 people at selection centres across the UK.
Volunteers for Glasgow 2014 must be 16 when they apply – there is no upper age limit – and be eligible to work in the UK.
From there, an estimated 25,000 people will be invited for interview between April and the end of the year.
Among the volunteers, Glasgow 2014 is set to recruit someone to take on the role of the official mascot for the Games, Clyde the thistle man.
