Glasgow’s bid for the 2014 Commonwealth Games won the praise of the Games’
organisers following a visit from an evaluation commission.
The visit from a five-man team from the Commonwealth Games Federation
measured all aspects of the city’s bid from infrastructure to political support
and legal issues.
John Tierney, head of the evaluation commission team, labelled Glasgow’s bid
‘truly impressive’ with particular emphasis on the facilities at Hampden Park,
Ibrox and Celtic Park.
A decision on whether Glasgow or Abuja in Nigeria will be chosen to host the
2014 Games will be made later this year.
A spokesman for the Glasgow 2014 bid said: ‘The visit has been demanding of
us but also extremely interesting and informative. The Evaluation Committee has
looked at every aspect of our bid in great detail. We hope that they have seen
the strength of what Glasgow has to offer.’
