Global Energy Race Appoints Limelight Sports

Limelight Sports has been appointed to organise the UK event for the 2017 Global Energy Race by New York Bakery Company and Grupo Bimbo.

The event, made up of 3km, 5km and 10km runs, started globally in 2015 and now in its third year has expanded to 38 host cities in 21 countries. The UK edition will take place on Sunday 24th September and will be part of the official attempt to break the Guinness world record for a race taking place in the most cities on the same day.

Limelight Sports will be responsible for the UK edition of Global Energy Race which will take place in Rother Valley Country Park in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. Entrants can choose which distance to complete.

Limelight Sports’ brief includes full operational delivery, technology and marketing.

Global Energy Race is owned by Grupo Bimbo, a baking company. The New York Bakery Company, who are owned by Grupo Bimbo, has a factory based just a few miles from the UK race in Rotherham. They will donate one bagel for every one kilometre completed by every runner to local food banks as well as donate all entry fees to charity.

This is in partnership with The Trussell Trust – the UK Foodbank Network who provide emergency food and support to people in crisis across the UK. This means that if everyone collectively runs 10,000km the New York Bakery Company will donate 10,000 bagels.
