Mediarex Sports & Entertainment (MSE), the company behind the Global Poker League, has announced the first 12 teams and managers for its inaugural season, starting with a draft day on 25th February 2016.

Using a single league entity format – a system currently used by the eSport industry and is similar to MLS – team franchise managers have been selected by the Global Poker League, assigned based on their poker skills, business acumen, ability to lead a team and commitment to investing time and passion into their team and the league. Team managers include some of the best known poker players from around the world.

Together the 12 team managers total 71 career wins, 405 Top 10s and $46,589,602 in live tournament earnings.

The first activity for the managers will be their player selection at the draft, which will be held at the SLS Hotel Beverly Hills and livestreamed on Twitch.tv on 25th February 2016.

Players already planning on entering the draft include back-to-back World Poker Tour (WPT) winner Darren Elias, ‘The 10 Million Dollar Man’ Chris Moorman, three time WPT champion and WSOP gold bracelet winner Anthony Zinno and Fedor Holz – one of the fastest risers in the GPI World Poker Rankings.

Alexandre Dreyfus, CEO of MSE, commented: “Today is an exciting day in Global Poker League history, the confirmation of our team managers is a crucial step towards our goal. We’ve secured an incredible amount of talented leaders to represent our 12 franchise teams as well as strong intent from some of the world’s best poker players to make themselves draftable on 25th February. We’re looking forward to what the next few months and the inaugural season of the Global Poker League will bring for fans across the globe.”

As announced last October, the Global Poker League is looking to change the image of poker and deliver the game to a wider mainstream audience. The league will provide a new level of fan engagement, with live events and new game play formats.
