Martin St Quinton, owner and chairman of Gloucester Rugby, has been announced as the next chairman of Cheltenham Racecourse.

The new appointment as chairman of Cheltenham Racecourse will not affect Martin’s position at Gloucester Rugby.

Set to replace Robert Waley-Cohen at the end of the 2018/19 jumps season, the appointment follows Martin’s previous involvement in racing, and Cheltenham in particular, where he chaired the funding committee that oversaw the £45m redevelopment of The Princess Royal Stand.

St Quinton has been a Jockey Club member since December 2013 and was previously involved at The Jockey Club’s Epsom Racecourse, where he was racecourse committee director.

Martin St Quinton, said: “It’s a real thrill to be combining two of my great passions in horse racing and rugby.

“As well as being a huge Gloucester Rugby fan, I’m also a racing enthusiast and I’m delighted to have been asked to become chairman at Cheltenham, the home of National Hunt racing.

“I cannot wait to get started and there is so much to look forward to – it’s a very exciting time.”

Under St Quinton’s ownership, Gloucester Rugby has made two European Challenge Cup finals and significant investments continue to be made at the club, from players to staff and infrastructure, as well as the recent club rebrand.
