GMR Global Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of GMR Group, has acquired Hampshire Sport & Leisure Holdings Limited, the parent company of Hampshire Cricket.

The acquisition, which will be completed in phases over 24 months, follows an agreement reached between the parties a year ago.

Hampshire Cricket, founded in 1863, is one of 18 First-Class counties in England and Wales.

The deal marks a significant change in county cricket ownership, bringing external investment into the domestic game. GMR Group, which has stakes in several cricket franchises worldwide, has outlined plans to enhance Hampshire’s infrastructure, expand its reach, and support talent development.

GMR has an established presence in global cricket, co-owning the Delhi Capitals (IPL and WPL), as well as franchises in the International League T20 (Dubai Capitals), SA20 (Pretoria Capitals), and Major League Cricket (Seattle Orcas). The company has also invested in the Pro Kabaddi League and Ultimate Kho Kho League in India.

The acquisition of Hampshire Cricket extends GMR’s expansion into the UK sports market at a time when English county teams are exploring new financial models amid a changing domestic and international cricket landscape.
