Digital sports content and media group, Perform, has expanded into Korea after partnering with local sport, culture and marketing experts, WAGTI, to manage and promote the Korean edition of Goal, Perform’s leading football brand and website.

According to Perform, the partnership will extend beyond the management of the Korean Goal and into expanding the Goal brand in the region.

Through this partnership, WAGTI will drive commercial partnerships and has hired senior football content expertise in Hojung Seo and Seongmo Lee who will provide editorial consultancy.

As well as supplying local fans with news and features from the global game, the partnership will see WAGTI providing enhanced coverage of Korean football to elevate the K League and drive engagement across all channels.

In addition to the new partnership with Perform, Wagti are actively engaged with marketing for Pyeongchang Olympic sponsors and various global sports licensing projects.

Speaking at a recent partnership ceremony at WAGTI’s Gangnam-gu head office, Martyn Jones, co-MD of Goal Studios, said: “In partnership with WAGTI, Goal Korea will serve the new breed of football fan. These fans are young, socially inclined, mobile dependent and demanding a new type of football content. Working with WAGTI Goal Korea will give them the fastest news, social ammunition and access to the biggest stars both in Korea and across the globe.

“WAGTI is a leading sports company in Korea and with ambitions throughout Asia. Their infrastructure and ability to draw out Korea’s passion for football will be essential to Goal Korea’s continued success.”

WAGTI CEO, Hoon Kang added: “We’re looking forward to helping the K-League improve its global profile through working with Perform and Goal.com to attract more football fans through industry-leading content, as well as contributing to the advancement of the football industry as a whole.”

Globally, Goal is published in 19 languages across 38 local editions, including Goal Korea and reaches over 60 million unique users per month. Goal has also been shortlisted for Digital Platform of the Year at the BT Sport Industry Awards 2017 – check out the full shortlist here.

In the Sport Industry Informer on 31st March, it was stated that Perform had acquired WAGTI. This was not the case, rather Goal has partnered with the Korean agency to manage and promote the Korean edition of Goal.
