The Great Run Company, a mass participation events company, has announced the launch of the first Great SwimRun event, which will take place on Saturday 10th June 2017.
Inspired by the ÖTILLÖ challenges that originated in the Scandinavian wilderness, Great SwimRun Windermere is the latest addition to the Great Swim Series.

With a focus on working together, teams of two alternate between running and swimming along a course of island trails and open water. Carrying everything needed from start to finish, competitors will have to deal with swimming and running in both their trainers and wetsuits.
Alex Jackson, director, Great Swim Series said, “SwimRun originated in Sweden and it’s a fantastic example of how Scandinavians make the most of the incredible rural areas and wild swimming spots their countries have to offer.
“Great SwimRun Windermere is the first event in the Series and will accommodate everyone from beginners to experienced competitors. With a short distance, medium and endurance distance, we hope to attract people of all abilities.”
