Charles Green, the former chief executive of Sheffield United, has agreed an £8.5m deal to buy Rangers with the backing of a global consortium made up of 20 individuals.

Green will aim to take the Scottish Premier League club out of administration through a Company Voluntary Agreement.

‘This is a great football club with a tremendous history and we will preserve that while building a solid platform for the future,’ he told the BBC.

‘Rangers supporters have every right to believe their club should be a success on and off the pitch and that is exactly what we will strive to achieve.’

Green has secured a period of exclusivity to complete the purchase, which is expected to be finalised on 6th June.

Meanwhile, Ticketus has launched legal action over the £26.7m it is owed. The company is due the income from some 100,000 Rangers season tickets over four years in return for the cash injections it made last year to pay off the club’s debt.
