The Football Association (FA) has appointed Greg Clarke as its new chairman, succeeding Greg Dyke.

The move comes after the former English Football League (EFL) chairman, who also served as Leicester chairman, stepped down from his role at the EFL in June.

Clarke was nominated to take over the role in July, but was only ratified in the role on Wednesday. An FA nominations committee, chaired by independent director Roger Devlin, recommended Clarke to the governing body’s board.

He starts his new role on 2nd September and will travel next weekend with the England senior squad to Slovakia, where the team begin their FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

On his appointment, Clarke said: “I’m relishing the challenge. It’s an honour for me to be joining at such a pivotal point in its recent history.”

“I’m delighted to be confirmed as the next chairman of the FA and I’m relishing the challenge. My experience as a council member for the FA has given me an insight into the excellent work this organisation undertakes at every level of the game. It’s an honour for me to be joining at such a pivotal point in its recent history.”
