Jonathan Gregory, the commercial director at Wembley Stadium, is to take up the new post of director of partnerships for England’s bid to host the World Cup in 2018.
Gregory, who has been at Wembley from the beginning of its £757m redevelopment, will be responsible for delivering the commercial programme for the 2018 bid including bringing in sponsorship partners – the full details of which are to be revealed today.
Gregory implemented a highly successful commercial programme at Wembley Stadium attracting three founding partner brands – Microsoft, Umbro and Carlsberg – to sponsor the new development in lucrative multi-million pound deals.
The addition of Gregory to the 2018 World Cup bid team further strengthens the structural set-up and follows on the from the appointment of former Manchester United commercial chief Andy Anson as the bid chief executive at the turn of the year.
