David Beckham’s Guild Esports has worked together with its premier partner, Sky, to launch ‘Sky City’, a custom-built map that exists within the video game Fortnite.

Created in partnership with gaming studio UMI Games, the new map will serve as the playground for the ‘Speed Showdown’, a series of live-stream events where Fortnite players can compete alongside creators to win prizes.

Guild Esports Fortnite pro Ruby ‘RubyPlays’ Allenby has been enlisted as the face of the campaign, while creators, Sunpi, Tubbo, Archie and LittleBunny have been signed up to support the first event.

The pay-tv broadcaster came onboard as a sponsor of the UK-based esports organisation in September 2022 as part of a three-year deal that included naming rights to the company’s HQ in Shoreditch, east London.

Since that time, the two organisations have collaborated on a number of high-profile initiatives, most recently launching the Racers Eseries and the Soccer Eseries, two new women’s-only esports gaming competitions which share prize pot of £50,000.

Regarding the new announcement, Jasmine Skee, Chief Executive of Guild Esports, said, “We are thrilled to partner with Sky Broadband on the Sky City launch in Fortnite. With 85% of Fortnite players aged 18-35, this collaboration lets us engage with a key demographic in a new and exciting way.

“Young people spend almost double their time gaming over any other social channel. This is the new frontier of digital marketing, with active and engaged users having authentic brand experiences.”

Sunny Bhurji, Sky Connectivity’s marketing director, added, “I’m super excited about the launch of Sky City and the Speed Showdown activation as it once again demonstrates how Sky Broadband is essential to its gaming customers.

“It’s a first-of-its-kind tournament that really brings streamers and their audiences together and is all powered by Sky Broadband.”

Earlier in the month, Guild Esports signed a letter of intent (LOI) with US investment company DCB Sports.
