Former Olympic 400m hurdles champion Sally Gunnell has struck an endorsement
deal to promote the British chicken industry to the buying public.

Gunnell has signed a sponsorship contract with the British Poultry Council to
promote sales of British-reared chicken and increase awareness of a growing
trend amongst the public to purchase imported poultry.

The chicken industry is in need of a lift after research revealed that the
amount the UK imports has quadrupled since 1990, and in 2005 over £900m sales of
chicken came from overseas import.

The retired runner, who is the daughter of a poultry farmer, will make a
number of promotional appearances to highlight the need for the public to
purchase homegrown chicken.

Gunnell has been working as a commentator for the BBC since her retirement.
