A victory parade for F1 champion Lewis Hamilton has been cancelled after Woking council allegedly refused to pay the required security bill.
The commemorative march was to be held in the Surrey town, as it is where Hamilton’s team McLaren is based.
Given the world champion’s popularity, the parade was predicted to attract throngs of people and require a high level of security throughout the day.
Reportedly, it would cost up to £110,000 to provide the necessary safety measures for the event, an amount the council claimed not to be in the current position to afford, given the global financial situation.
