New F1 star Lewis Hamilton is moving rapidly to a £10million fortune
over the coming year, according to one sponsorship expert.
The 22-year-old has made such an impact In the Vodafone McLaren
Mercedes car with three podium finishes in his first three starts on the F1
grid.
Nigel Currie, director of Brand Rapport, said Hamilton could scoop
a £100 million fortune over the course of his career.
“He’s got
absolutely enormous potential for doing almost anything. If he continues the way
he has been on the track earning £10 million in a year is easily achievable.
That’s more than say Wayne Rooney makes in a year from these kinds of
deals”.
“I think there would be a whole number of different sorts of brands
interested,” says Currie. “And it’s not just the flash watches and fashion
chains that normally go along with Formula One. I could see him marketing a
whole range of run-of-the-mill products – like the ‘Wayne Rooney market.’ It
could be just things as simple as fast food and soft drinks.”
“And in say
a 10-year career if he was able to reach the very top, and by all accounts he is
a world champion in the making, he would be able to keep earning that figure
each year.
“So £100 million from his activities away from the track is
possible, plus what he would continue earning after his career.”
