McLaren Mercedes F1 driver Lewis Hamilton is thought to be on the verge of signing a major multi-million pound sponsorship deal with sports brand Reebok.

Hamilton, who sprung to prominence as an F1 star last season, is set to join the likes of Thierry Henry and fellow British sports star Amir Khan as one of Reebok’s global brand ambassadors in a deal believed to be worth in the region of £10m.

While the deal has not been announced formally by either Hamilton or Reebok, it does go against McLaren’s usual policy of not allowing its drivers to sign individual sponsorship contracts with brands outside of the portfolio of team sponsors.

The McLaren F1 team is currently title sponsored by Vodafone and includes Santander and Tag Heuer amongst its other partner brands.
