Harlequins Rugby Club is working with Women’s Aid, the national domestic violence charity, on its latest campaign – ‘Real Men’ do not abuse women.
This week Harlequins players, Ollie Kohn, Karl Dickson, Mike Brown, Ugo Monye, Ross Chisholm, Will Skinner, Danny Care and Tom Guest showed their support of Women’s Aid’s campaign against domestic violence, by modeling a range of exclusive charity t-shirts.
Women’s Aid is the national domestic violence charity that co-ordinates and supports an England-wide network of over 370 local organisations that provide over 500 services working to end violence against women and children.
The charity provides a package of vital 24 hour lifeline services through its publications, website www.womensaid.org.uk, and runs the Freephone 24 Hour National Domestic Violence Helpline in partnership with Refuge.
According to Women’s Aid, one woman in four experience domestic violence in their lifetime, and the campaign sees Harlequins Rugby Club join forces with Women’s Aid and department store Debenhams to back the call that ‘Real Men’ do not abuse and control women – physically, emotionally, sexually or financially.
Designer at Debenhams favourite Henry Holland has created a range of men’s t-shirts available exclusively at the retailer’s stores and online.
The t-shirts carry the slogan ‘I’m a Real Man’ – with profits going to Women’s Aid.
Lorraine Rooney, marketing manager for Harlequin FC said: ‘Just reading some of the statistics really makes you stop and think about this campaign and we are very fortunate to be in a position to support Women’s Aid. It has been a pleasure working with the Women’s Aid team and if we can even help a handful of women by driving awareness and showing them where they can turn for help we’ll be happy’.
