Heineken has announced plans for its seventh consecutive UEFA Champions League Trophy Tour with an itinerary that covers South America, Africa and Asia before reaching Wembley Stadium on 25th May 2013 for the UEFA Champions League Final.

Some of the world’s greatest footballers, including Marcel Desailly, Freddie Ljungberg and Clarence Seedorf, will join the trophy as it navigates the globe. The players will be present at dedicated events, and will meet with media and fans throughout the tour. Fans will have the opportunity to take photos with the trophy, see UEFA Champions League historical memorabilia and win tickets to the UEFA Champions League Final 2013 in London.

Former Dutch international and multiple UEFA Champions League winner, Clarence Seedorf, commented: ‘I’ve been fortunate enough to hold this trophy four times in my playing career so it’s great that Heineken is able to give fans around the world a bit of the excitement I’ve felt. The Trophy Tour really is an once-in-a-lifetime experience for all football supporters – I hope they’re as excited as I am to spend time with this incredible Trophy again.’

Hans Erik Tuijt, Heineken’s Global Brand activation director commented: ‘Seven years on and we feel proud that the world’s most prestigious football tournament, the UEFA Champions League, is sponsored by the world’s most international beer brand, Heineken. Since we began the Trophy Tour, it’s been on an amazing journey, with fans from all continents able to engage with it.  Heineken will continue to surprise and entertain fans with more unique experiences, as we get closer to the UEFA Champions League Final.’

Commenting on the rationale behind the Trophy Tour, Guy Laurent Epstein, marketing director at UEFA Events SA, said: ‘The UEFA Champions League Trophy Tour presented by Heineken really demonstrates the true global reach and appeal of the UEFA Champions League. We are delighted that together with Heineken we can reward the passion and dedication of football fans in Africa, South America and Asia – all very different continents but all unified by their love of the sport. Football is often called an international language and if this is true then the UEFA Champions League is a major part of that vocabulary.’
