The FA has been dealt a further commercial blow following E.ON’s announcement that it would not be renewing its title sponsorship of the FA Cup, with the departure of the governing body’s group commercial director Jonathan Hill.
Hill, who joined The FA seven years ago, is leaving to ‘pursue new challenges’ and will officially depart from his post in three months’ time. It is not known if he has a new job to go to.
Hill’s departure leaves a void at the top of The FA’s commerical department just when they are faced with filling a significant £106m hole in accounts left by the collapse of FA Cup TV partners Setanta as well as the loss of E.ON.
‘I am disappointed to lose the talents that Jonathan brings to The FA, but he feels that now is the right time to move on, having overseen two sponsorship programme renewal processes and both a domestic and international tender process,’ said Ian Watmore, chief executive at The FA.
