Former Honda F1 marketing director, David Butler, has joined Tribe Management as a director and member of its senior management board.

Tribe Management is an incubator, accelerator and adviser that focuses on the sports, entertainment and socially responsible sectors, and selectively invests in early stage transformative ideas.

Butler, who will be leaving the team on 31st March after 18 months in the role, joined Honda F1 in October 2007 and was instrumental in forming the new Brawn GP F1 Team by establishing a blueprint commercial programme for the forthcoming season.

‘David has been a highly respected senior management member of the team and has already made a significant contribution to Brawn GP,’ said Ross Brawn, the team’s principal.

‘We’re losing someone for whom we have great respect for his expertise and experience and are grateful for the impact he has made and the professionalism and passion he brought as one of the sports marketing industry’s most dynamic figures.’

Butler commented: ‘I have made the decision to focus on the development of a very exciting “third sector” in marketing and sponsorship which aligns ethical values and cause-related programmes with leading global brands and properties.

‘I am excited about working with the emerging network of dynamic sports and social entrepreneurs who through their projects and work are changing the world around them.’

Butler was one of the Octagon Group’s youngest divisional directors before moving to Laureus where he was instrumental in developing the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.

He is also a trustee of the internationally acclaimed Fight for Peace programme and is one of the founding Advisory Panel members of Beyond Sport, the global initiative chaired by former Prime Minister Tony Blair and supported by Lord Coe, chairman of London 2012, Moroccan Minister of Sport Nawal El Moutawakel, and Olympic track legend Michael Johnson.
