England & GB coach Hope Powell has been shortlisted for Fifa’s women’s football coach of the year award, the winner of which will be announced in January.

Powell will be joined on the shortlist by 9 other coaches including the favourite, Pia Sundhage, who led the USA to Olympic gold in London this year.

Powell’s nomination finalises a successful year in which helped England qualify for Euro 2013 as leaders of their group as well as coaching Great Britain to the quarter finals of London 2012. Powell was also the first woman to receive the Uefa Pro Licence.

The nomination follows an announcement this week from the FA outlining their new five-year women’s football strategy.
