HSBC will mark its first year as Patron of the Open Championship with the launch of an interactive fan area, the HSBC Open Championship Golf Zone, in the Tented Village at Royal St. Georges Golf Club, 10th to 17th July 2011.

The new interactive experience covers an area equivalent to almost five tennis courts and officials are expecting approximately 50,000 spectators throughout the week to enjoy this new experience free of charge courtesy of The Open’s new ‘Official Banking Partner.’

The new HSBC Open Championship Golf Zone will include a full scale replica of St Andrews’ notorious Road Hole bunker.

Visitors to the HSBC Open Championship Golf Zone can also enter Longest Drive and Nearest to the Pin competitions on an Open Championship course on the Tri-Screen Golf Simulator or compare their swings to those of the best golfers with the help of FlightScope, the latest in tracking technology, while younger spectators can hone their golf and gaming skills in the Children’s Zone.

Information Pods featuring the iPad2, video walls and touch screen televisions will be available throughout the HSBC Open Championship Golf Zone containing everything a fan would wish to know about their favourite competitors, past and present.

Those who would like to see our Open Championship links courses asking tougher questions of the players will have a unique opportunity to design their own Open course. Additionally, the Nikon Photo experience offers the opportunity to don a ‘Champion Caddie’ bib and stand next to one of the best players in the world – a model rather than the real thing – for a photograph.

In 2010, 200,000 spectators attended The Open Championship and over 3,000 hours of television coverage were broadcast to 193 countries worldwide.
