Ahead of the start of the FA Women’s Super League, title sponsor Barclays has announced its ambassadors for the upcoming season – as part of the bank’s It’s All to Play For campaign.

In its first year as sponsor of the UK’s top tier women’s football competition, the bank has announced that Ian Wright, Chelcee Grimes and Kelly Smith will be the brand’s football ambassadors.

Meanwhile, Barclays has also released the findings of a survey it has conducted with YouGov ahead of the opening weekend of the season, looking into the increased interest in women’s football.

Polling 2000 adults in August this year, the results showed that 34% of those asked said they have an interest in the women’s game, while of those who considered themselves ‘football fans’ 46% say they have watched a women’s game.

Tom Corbett, Barclays Global Head of Sponsorship and Media, said: “It’s an exciting time to be a part of football. We expect the new season of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League to generate record-breaking attendance after a massively popular World Cup this summer. Yet, it is clear that this is the beginning and with the vast majority of girls still not having access to football we are determined to work alongside the FA, to give all girls the same access in schools as boys by 2024.”
