The International Cricket Council is reviewing whether to move the Champions Trophy in September from Pakistan to Sri Lanka due to security concerns.

A suicide bomber killed at least 15 people in Islamabad on Sunday and the International Cricket Council’s Haroon Lorgat said safety would not be risked.

The ICC chief executive said: ‘The ICC will not compromise the safety and security of any individual at one of its tournaments. If it is not appropriate to play in any country then we will not do so.’

Security consultants have been preparing a report for the ICC and they are expected to announce by the middle of July whether Pakistan is deemed safe to host the eight-team tournament.

It is due to start on 11th September with matches being held on Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi.

The ICC has previously stated Sri Lanka would be the back-up venue for the trophy.

Australia, who pulled out of a tour to Pakistan in March, and New Zealand have both voiced security fears of holding the event in Pakistan.

Eight teams – Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, England and the West Indies – will participate in the Champions Trophy.
