The International Cricket Council (ICC) is to try to broker a deal between the Indian Cricket League (ICL) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The Indian board has refused to recognise the Twenty20 tournament which rivals the Indian Premier League (IPL).

ICC president David Morgan will meet representatives of the two parties in Johannesburg this week.

Said Morgan: ‘I’ve long regarded it as a priority to bring together the BCCI and the owners of the ICL. I hope we might be successful in coming to a mutually acceptable conclusion.

‘I can’t be certain that will be the case but I hope we can at least make a start in bringing about a settlement.

‘I think this is significant because experience tells me that the best opportunity to solve a dispute is to have the parties face-to-face.’

Talks broke down last October after the ICC asked the parties to meet for the first time to discuss whether the event could receive official recognition.

The BCCI issues a life ban to any Indian player competing in the ICL, which is not sanctioned by the ICC.
