Two long-standing rules in football are set to be discussed and could possibly be changed by the International FA Board (IFAB) during its annual meeting at the end of the month.
The call for the maximum number of substitutions in the event of extra time to be increased will be tabled for consideration, meaning the current number of three could be upped.
Additionally discussions at the meeting will focus on Law 7 – The Duration of the Match, in which the decision to extend the maximum duration of the half-time interval will be considered.
Among other matters submitted for discussion are a recent IFAB-endorsed experiment involving additional assistant referees and the instigation of ‘sin bins’.
The IFAB is composed of The Football Association (England), The Scottish Football Association, The Football Association of Wales, The Irish Football Association (Northern Ireland) and world governing body FIFA.
Each British association has one vote apiece, while FIFA, which represents its 204 other member associations, has four. A three-quarter majority is required for any proposal to be passed.
