IMG Sports Media has signed a new deal to become the exclusive production partner of Channel 4 for its future racing broadcasts.
The company faced strong competition for the tender from Sunset + Vine.
The deal will run alongside Channel 4’s four-year contract with Racecourse Media Group that will see it broadcast all British horse racing exclusively until December 2016.
Meanwhile, Channel 4’s key sponsorship deal with Dubai has also been extended for four years.
Channel 4 said in a statement: ‘The digital propositions for Channel 4’s horse racing coverage formed an important part of the tender process and Channel 4 and IMG Sports Media will relaunch channel4.com/racing and build new presences on other digital platforms.’
Carl Hicks, BBC Sport senior programme editor will join IMG Sports Media to head up the team as executive producer having recently edited the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Channel 4 sports editor Jamie Aitchison, added: ‘After a rigorous and invaluable tender process, I am looking forward immensely to working with IMG Sports Media to deliver our vision for the sport.’
‘Their pitch was compelling and crucially contained deep racing expertise allied to innovative broadcasting proposals.’
