IMG has agreed a three-year deal to distribute Barça TV, FC Barcelona’s TV channel, on a worldwide basis – excluding Spain and the US.

The global sports, fashion and media company will provide sales and technical support for the channel until the end of the 2017/18 season.

IMG has agreed the deal with Telefonica, the Spanish telecom giant that has a multi-million dollar deal with FC Barcelona to produce Barça TV.

As part of the agreement, Telefonica will continue to produce three-hour programming blocks every two weeks across each year.

IMG has previously distributed Barça TV between 2006 and 2010.

Enric Rojas, the director of IMG Media in Spain and Portugal, said: “FC Barcelona is undoubtedly one of the most successful clubs and brands in the world and our aim will be to continue to grow and maximise exposure across all platforms.

“Having won the treble last season – the Champions League, La Liga and Copa del Rey – they are the best club side in world football at the moment, and the talent within the team through the likes of Messi, Neymar and Suarez is a very compelling watch week in and week out. It’s exciting for us to once again be involved and we are looking forward to a fruitful relationship.”

Sergio Gil of Telefonica added: “The distribution of Barça TV is one of the most important points in the recent agreements between FC Barcelona and Telefonica, with an emphasis on the international outreach of the club, especially in Telefonica’s natural markets.”
