Fan engagement specialist Incrowd has revealed the results of its first season of video polls for the Rugby Football League (RFL) – part of the agency’s work to drive fan engagement via the ‘OurLeague’ RFL membership platform.
Since March, Man Of The Match polls have been broadcast, updated and announced live over the ‘Ourleague’ platform, giving fans the opportunity to make personal choices based on real-life game situations and referee decisions.
Those participating in the video polls are encouraged to use an official FanScoreID from InCrowd, which drives data capture for the RFL, enabling the rightsholder to learn more about its fans and so deliver more relevant, personal content and activations based on their past engagements.
App notifications, social updates and email communications ensure no fan misses the opportunity to cast their vote and have their say.
Rugby Football League membership manager Nicola Spencer commented on the impact of the innovation, saying: “The live Man of The Match poll has generated incredible engagement numbers and we’re really pleased to be able to add yet another dimension to the fan experience for OurLeague members, whilst continuing to learn more about rugby league fans. The development of the video polls is an exciting prospect for us; we’re looking forward to working on new ideas with the InCrowd team.”
Following the success of the Man of the Match polls, a new Try or No Try video poll was also introduced to the platform in August. One example, centred on a contoversial Super 8s decision, saw 1,438 votes result in a split 51% Try / 49% No Try descison.
Poll sponsor Patient Claim Line, already the sponsor of big screen video decisions in live Sky Sports games, was among those to praise the initiative at the conclusion of the rugby league season.
Patient Claim Line’s marketing director, Alex Kenny said: “The Try or No Try video poll is a perfect activation opportunity for us; the nature of the poll compliments our brand messaging and its really exciting to see such a close call on the first poll plus really encouraging participation numbers from the get-go.”
