India’s debut as an F1 Grand Prix venue has been put back by a year to 2011 due to an alteration in the construction schedule for the Delhi circuit.

Construction on a new circuit 30 miles south-east of the Indian capital Delhi will start next month and finish in time for the start of the 2010 season.

Abu Dhabi will make its debut next year in a 19-race schedule while South Korea and India had been mooted for 2010.

Race promoters, the Indian Olympic Association, announced in November 2007 that Formula One Management had approved a site in Noida, a surburb on the outskirts of Delhi.

Force India team owner Vijay Mallya – who has championed India’s prospects for hosting a Grand Prix race – said he expected the work to be completed on schedule.
