Bernie Ecclestone, CEO of Formula One, has confirmed that India will not host a Grand Prix as previously expected in 2014. According to media reports, the cancellation is over a disagreement on when the Grand Prix should take place between Formula One and Jaypee Group, the organisers of the event, with the former stating it should be held in the first half of the season while the latter argued for a October/November date.

Ecclestone said of the situation: ‘When we signed the five-year deal with Jaypee, we were keen on going to India in the first half and Jaypee wanted it to be in October. We gave in at that time, but now it looks we will have the race early 2015.’

He added: ‘It was too close. Therefore, after speaking to promoters, we think it is best not to have a race in 2014 and have one in 2015. We will have to club India with the four rounds in the Asia-Pacific region [in 2015].’
