The BBC has announced that over 32.8m have watched the Olympics so far on BBC TV, while a further 20.6 million have visited the Olympics pages on the BBC Sport website and app.

In addition, the organisation claims BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website and app have seen 68.8 million online viewing requests, with the all totals set to climb as the Games continue through the second week.


Former interim FIFA President Issa Hayatou has been banned from the game for a single year after a FIFA ethics committee found a breach of ‘duty of loyalty’, relating to his time as the head of African football.

President of CAF for 29 years and closely linked with the now disgraced Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini, Hayatou was found to have entered CAF in to ‘an anti-competitive agreement with Lagardère Sport.’

Hayatou remains an Honorary IOC Member.


Harlequins have announced performance coach Owen Eastwood as a new member of club’s Board

Having recently been appointed to oversee a wide-ranging performance review of the club, Eastwood has extended his role to join the board.

Over the past decade, Eastwood has worked with some of the most elite teams and groups in the world, including Gareth Southgate’s England Football team, the British Olympic team, NATO and the South African Cricket Team.


The MCC has announced a newly named gate, the Heyhoe Flint Gate, at Lord’s Cricket Ground to honour the late Rachael Heyhoe Flint and her achievements in women’s cricket.

The announcement coincides with the 45th anniversary of the first women’s One-Day International to be held at Lord’s, in which Heyhoe Flint led out England Women for the first time, to face Australia Women on 4 August 1976.
